The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) is a tertiary institution in Winneba, Central Region of Ghana. It was established in 1992 with the main aim to train teachers for the educational system of Ghana. Since its establishment, UEW has had a number of Vice-Chancellors1. Who is the current vice Chancellor of UEW?

Stephen Jobson Mitchual (2023- ), an expert in Wood Science and Technology, currently holds the position of Vice-Chancellor at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW). With more than 20 years of experience in academia and administration, he brings a wealth of knowledge to his role.

Prof. Mitchual began his studies at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, where he got his first degree in Agricultural Engineering in 1993. He then got a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast in 1998. His interest in wood science and technology led him to get a master’s degree and a PhD in the same field from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Besides his degrees, Prof. Mitchual also has a management certificate from the Chartered Institute of Administrators and Management Consultants, Ghana, and a certification from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. He has taken courses in financial management and managerial economics as well.

Prof. Mitchual has done a lot of research in Wood Science and Technology, including studies on how to process wood, preserve it, machine it, and improve safety in sawmills. He has also worked on creating new materials from wood. His work has greatly influenced the wood industry, conservation efforts, and education.
